Another High-End Branding Solution with SELECT® Newsletters!

“Market Positioning” is a popular phrase tossed around by marketing gurus. Unfortunately it is seldom defined and is frequently misunderstood. Market Position may be defined as your “Brand Identity,” or how consumers PERCEIVE your firm. Whether you know it or not, whether you like it or not, you “hold” a position in your marketplace. You may be surprised to learn that your actual brand identity is not at all what you had hoped.

Market Positioning, on the other hand, refers to the process of defining how you wish to be perceived (your brand identity) and implementing a plan to influence market perceptions accordingly. One of the tell-tale signs of improper market positioning is the unqualified or inappropriate lead. If you consistently receive inquiries from prospective clients who do not fit your firm’s ideal profile, chances are you have a market positioning error.

Keating Law has an excellent positioning strategy in place, as reflected in their contemporary, upscale logo. Working from this concept, we created a custom mast head for their SELECT® newsletter and a color palette to match. The design costs for this unique solution (based on their own logo) totaled just $265. As an added benefit, the new design also can be translated to an online presence through e-newsletters (click here for more info below) and a custom website!

MARKETING WITH INTEGRITY - How to Profit without Losing IT!

Marketing is not a four-letter word, but many attorneys are understandably uncomfortable with the process … and truthfully, there is real potential for damage if marketing efforts are not properly handled.

There are lots of ways to "Lose It" with marketing. First, you can lose your profits. Poorly planned marketing campaigns can cost your firm thousands of dollars, without ever breaking even. Second, you can lose your professional image. And, just like your mother told you, your reputation and good name are your most valuable assets. Your marketing should not only enhance your professional image, but should help Build Brand Equity. Finally, lawyers risk truly "Losing It" when marketing efforts are not carefully executed within the white-area of their state's Rules of Professional Conduct.

Learn the essentials of Marketing with Integrity that will ensure your marketing is profitable and effective, builds Brand Equity, protects your good name, and keeps you out of trouble with your state's Disciplinary Committee (it's not true that any publicity is good publicity, the one place you never want your name to appear is on your Bar Journal's list of disciplinary actions!).

YOUR MARKETING GOAL? TRUST DEVELOPMENT

Studies consistently show that clients want, above all else, an advisor whom they can trust. Building a successful estate planning practice hinges on your ability to develop trust with your clients and the allied professionals who make referrals to your firm. While reaching new clients (and referral sources) is a vital component of any marketing campaign, a good plan also includes longer-term strategies that will ensure a steady stream of referrals for the life of your practice.

Trust Development is the key to that steady stream. Develop trust with your clients, and those relationships will result in additional planning opportunities as events impact their lives and the lives of their loved ones. Abundant referrals of like-minded individuals flow naturally when your clients refer you as a trusted advisor to their friends and relatives. Earn the trust of your clients and you also will have abundant opportunities to work with the next generation for whom you helped preserve and protect an inheritance.

Newsletters are the linchpin in any Trust Development (aka marketing) program. They are the channel that best allows you to deliver consistent messages, with enough frequency to cut through the marketing clutter. In today's market, messages must be repeated in order to be noticed. SELECT® newsletters allow you to customize your message and integrate your own branding. That kind of consistency builds a trustworthy image in the mind of the consumer.

FUNDAMENTALS OF EMAIL MARKETING
How can you ensure your e-mail marketing campaign is successful, does not annoy your best clients, and does not break the law? Here are some tips from Jeanne Jennings, e-mail marketing consultant and author of The E-Mail Marketing Kit.

Top Nine Key Considerations:

  1. Deliverability -- Deliverability is the biggest challenge facing e-mail marketers today. Getting past the numerous spam filters and email blockers is your first hurdle.
    Ways to improve deliverability include:

    1. Use a professional distribution service that maintains relationships with Internet Service Providers (ISPs), double-opt-in procedures, and is CAN-SPAM compliant;

    2. Send your e-mails at an appropriate time of day -- not in the middle of the night; and

    3. Include a "white list" request in your emails.

  2. The "From" Line -- Improper "From" lines can send your readers directly to the DELETE key.
    Boost your "open" rates with "from" lines that:

    1. Clearly identify you;

    2. Are instantly recognizable;

    3. Remain consistent from send to send;

    4. Are not so long they become truncated; and

    5. Have both a "display name" and an actual from email address (a false or missing "from" address can get you kicked off an ISP!).

  3. The Subject Line -- Readers decide whether or not to open an email based first on the FROM line, and second on the SUBJECT line.
    Make sure your SUBJECT line:

    1. Is engaging and benefit-oriented;

    2. Unique to each issue;

    3. Puts the most important information first;

    4. Does not sound "spammy;" and

    5. Is appropriate for your content/audience.

  4. View from the Preview Pane -- Most readers view their email messages within the "Preview Pane." That is all the space (and time) you may have to get your message across.
    Design your message with the Preview Pane in mind, and be sure to:

    1. Include a recognizable logo or brand name;

    2. Use a benefit-oriented headline or title;

    3. Make sure the message gets through even if images are blocked; and

    4. Add a link to view the email online

  5. Your First Screen -- Your email newsletter should draw people online to view the entire message. When they follow a hyperlink to your online newsletter, be sure the first screen they view:

    1. Starts with an engaging opening paragraph;

    2. Is clearly from a real person or group; and

    3. Includes a book-marked table of contents.

  6. The Look and Feel -- Remember, your email newsletter is your Public Image, and you only get one chance to make a First Impression. The look and feel of your newsletter conveys even more about you than the content.
    Make sure your email newsletter:

    1. Is engaging to the eye to draw people in;

    2. Is entirely consistent with your Website;

    3. Uses images to support the message, not distract from it; and

    4. Is short and skimmable.

  7. Valuable, Relevant Content -- Now, your message has been delivered, was not deleted, made a good first impression, and IS BEING READ. Make sure your readers appreciate what they have received!
    Make your content:

    1. Benefit-oriented and engaging;

    2. Relevant;

    3. Interactive; and

    4. A manageable length.

  8. Your Business Goals -- Why are you even sending an email newsletter? What are your business goals? Remember, you are trying to BUILD a RELATIONSHIP, not provide information, education or do-it-yourself solutions.
    Your goal is to bring the reader into a relationship with you!

    1. Make sure your content supports your goal 100%;

    2. Include multiple methods of contacting you -- don't leave out your phone number, your mailing address, or your email address; and

    3. Be effective but not pushy.

  9. The Legal Footer -- Every email message should include a footer, but there are some unique aspects of your email newsletter that should ALWAYS be addressed in your footer, to include:

    1. An unsubscribe link -- an absolute necessity;

    2. Also offer a subscription management link so people can update their email address, or subscribe to other of your firm's newsletters;

    3. Include your physical mailing address;

    4. Include additional contact information (phone, fax or email); and

    5. Protect your content with a copyright statement.

Did you know that IMS offers two versions of electronic newsletters? Both versions are fully customizable with your firm branding, professionally delivered as web-page type documents, distributed through a professional distribution service, and suitable for use with professional advisors, clients and prospects.

We do not use, and do not recommend using Adobe Acrobat files for online newsletters -- they require too many "extra" steps for the user, they download slowly, they are not "instant open," cannot be tracked through an e-mail server, and even if they are stored on your website, search engine crawlers will not index them -- so they do not help your directory rankings the way a web-page style newsletter will. The key to search engine ranking is keyword-rich content, updated regularly -- which is exactly what these e-newsletters deliver when linked to your home page!
